The chants and their special tones were believed to impart spiritual blessings when sung in harmony and deep meditative states. Cacao is a powerful heart-opener, increasing blood flow 30-40% with a ceremonial dose. It increases focus so that meditation, yoga and therapeutic work are more accessible. It’s gentle, supportive energy allows people to expand and experience heightened states and facilitates greater connection to other people and in intimate partnership.
One of the main active ingredients that we experience in our physiology during ceremony is Theobromine. Theo-broma literally translates as God-Food, and potentiates the release of dopamine, the ‘pleasure’ hormone. This, alongside phenethylamine, which is known to help relieve stress and depression and which is released in the body during emotional euphoria, create heightened sensation and empathy.
